Samsung MagicINFO 9 Server Path Traversal Vulnerability

Historical catalog analysis: CISA added this entry on May 22, 2025. The entry reflects catalog information retrieved on August 31, 2026, not a snapshot archived on the inclusion date. Check current vendor guidance before acting.

What the vulnerability is

CVE-2025-4632 is a path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) identified in the Samsung MagicINFO 9 Server. This flaw allows an attacker to write arbitrary files to the system with system-level authority. Because this occurs at a high privilege level, it represents a significant risk to the integrity of the host server.

Exposure and applicability

Samsung MagicINFO is frequently deployed in healthcare environments for digital signage, wayfinding, and patient information displays. While these systems are often viewed as peripheral, they typically reside on the internal network. A compromise of the signage server could potentially be used as a foothold to move laterally within a healthcare network or to disrupt the delivery of critical patient-facing information.

This vulnerability applies specifically to organizations utilizing the MagicINFO 9 Server. Security leaders and clinical engineering teams should identify if this software is active within their environment, particularly on servers that have connectivity to other clinical or administrative segments.

Remediation priorities

Based on our analysis of the reported flaw, we suggest the following prioritized actions for healthcare IT and security teams:

  1. Apply Vendor Mitigations: The primary priority is to apply the mitigations provided by Samsung. This addresses the root cause of the path traversal vulnerability.
  2. Responsible Role: System Administrator / IT Operations.
  3. Network Segmentation: Ensure that signage servers are isolated from networks containing ePHI or critical clinical systems. This is a damage-limiting control designed to prevent an attacker from using a compromised server as a pivot point.
  4. Responsible Role: Network Security Engineer.
  5. Principle of Least Privilege: Review the service accounts running the MagicINFO software. While the vulnerability allows system authority, reducing the overall footprint of administrative privileges on the host OS could limit the potential impact of an arbitrary file write.
  6. Responsible Role: System Administrator.

How to validate remediation

To verify that exposure has been reduced, administrators should first confirm the application of vendor-supplied updates or mitigations through version checks and patch management logs.

Further validation can be achieved by reviewing network traffic logs to ensure the signage server is communicating only with authorized displays and not attempting unauthorized connections to sensitive internal zones. We do not recommend performing active path traversal testing on production servers, as this could disrupt facility operations; instead, rely on vendor confirmation and configuration audits.

Limits and open questions

It remains unknown whether this vulnerability has been exploited by ransomware campaigns or other threat actors in the wild. Additionally, while CISA has established a remediation deadline for federal agencies, this date is not a legal requirement for private healthcare providers, though it serves as a benchmark for urgency.

Applying mitigations could reduce the likelihood of exploitation, but does not guarantee absolute prevention. Residual risk remains if other unpatched vulnerabilities exist within the same environment or if administrative credentials have already been compromised.
