Edimax IC-7100 IP Camera Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

Historical catalog analysis: CISA added this entry on March 19, 2025. The entry reflects catalog information retrieved on August 31, 2026, not a snapshot archived on the inclusion date. Check current vendor guidance before acting.

What the vulnerability is

CVE-2025-1316 is an OS command injection vulnerability (CWE-78) affecting the Edimax IC-7100 IP camera. The flaw stems from improper input sanitization, which could allow an attacker to execute remote code on the device by sending specially crafted requests. On March 19, 2025, CISA added this vulnerability to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, indicating that the flaw is being actively exploited in the wild.

Exposure and applicability

In a healthcare environment, IP cameras are frequently deployed for facility security, entrance monitoring, or as part of patient observation systems. Because these devices often reside on the same network as other clinical assets, a compromised camera could serve as an initial entry point for attackers to move laterally toward systems containing electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI).

Healthcare IT and clinical engineering teams should identify if the Edimax IC-7100 is present in their inventory. It is important to note that this product may be end-of-life (EoL) or end-of-service (EoS), meaning official security updates from the vendor may no longer be available.

Remediation priorities

Based on our analysis of the vulnerability and its EoL/EoS status, we suggest the following prioritized actions:

  1. Inventory and Decommissioning: Identify all IC-7100 units. If the device is confirmed as EoL/EoS and no vendor mitigations are available, the most effective risk reduction is to discontinue use of the product entirely.
  2. Network Isolation: For devices that cannot be immediately replaced, move them to a dedicated, isolated VLAN with strict access control lists (ACLs) to prevent communication with clinical networks or ePHI databases. This limits potential damage if the device is compromised.
  3. Vendor Mitigation Application: If the vendor has provided specific mitigations for this model, these should be applied immediately by IT administrators.

How to validate remediation

To verify that exposure has been reduced, healthcare security leaders can use the following methods:
* Asset Verification: Confirm through hardware audits or network scanning that all IC-7100 units have been removed from the environment or moved to an isolated segment.
* Traffic Analysis: Review firewall and VLAN logs to ensure no unauthorized traffic is flowing between the camera segment and sensitive healthcare data zones.

Limits and open questions

While removing or isolating the affected hardware reduces the risk associated with CVE-2025-1316, it does not eliminate all network risks. It remains unknown whether this specific vulnerability has been utilized in ransomware campaigns. Furthermore, because the device may be EoL/EoS, there is a residual risk that other undiscovered vulnerabilities exist for which no patches will ever be released.
